President
The President serves as the Incident Commander within the CERT Incident Command System during an activation. She supervises the CERT Executive Board, and oversees all activities, drills, and meetings. Additionally, she is constantly in communication with the CERT adviser, UM administrative officials, and outside agencies. The President is responsible for initiating the activation of the CERT.
Administration
Administration maintains team rosters, records minutes at meetings, and monitors attendance of our members at all CERT functions. When the team has been activated, administration works under the Incident Commander, ensuring documentation has been secured and records whereabouts, activities, personnel, and movement of teams responding in the field. Overall, their goal is to be the main organizer for CERT.
Training
The Training division of our team develops and runs the curriculum for all training activities including drills and small-scale exercises. While they do not plan end of semester drills, they assure that team members are capable of utilizing all skills within their scope of training. At the start of each semester, Training trains all new recruits. The training staff also helps to maintain a relationship with local law enforcement, fire departments, and the Miami-Dade Office of Emergency Management.
Operations
Our Operations staff coordinates team units during activation, establishes communication between teams and our Incident Command Post staff, and assists in the dissemination of information during activation. They monitor personnel and equipment during an activation, reallocating resources as needed. Additionally, Operations plan and monitor the Disaster Readiness Exercieses. This section also maintains the constitution/SOPs and act as an additional community partner liaison.
Logistics
Our Logistics team makes sure that CERT is ready to be activated at any time. They maintain our supplies and manage our financial resources and grants. During the year, Logistics also BERFs necessary expenses. Additionally, they provide the team with materials in preparation for an activation and provide our team with support during activation/deployment.
Outreach
Cert Outreach drives in expanding community involvement and enrichment through a variety of events, fundraisers and awareness projects. Outreach is involved in creating programs for our members in line with our training and medical interests. Overall, Outreach’s role involved: planning and excuting volunteer, social, and educational events.
